hi, since the JPM locking tuner 42mm is no longer available. - what is the size of the locking nut you use in this guitar (42mm or 43mm) ? - is that "GOTOH" locking tuner ?

I have a strat. The neck sucks. The frets are too small. If you like to play any shred it is way more difficult. If it had jumbo stainless steel frets it would be ok. Miss my Charvel Fusion. I don't like Clapton tho. Writes old songs. Albert Lee was his guitarist, Doyle Bramhall jr. Dunno, didn't Derek Trucks play with him? All amazing players

Regarding when opened back cavity, the control pots at first are EVH/Bourn 500k Lo Friction, later tone pot changed to 250k Hi Friction, and for EVH Signature Tour the volume pot is High Performance Upgraded. And tremolo block is 37mm, and can be use 42mm as well.

I don't think the price of the Pia is any different then fender selling the Eddie Vann Halen red stripped guitar, Or any other EVH guitar. Or Fender's Custom Shop Guitars! All bolt on necks are overpriced! They ( EVH & Fender) want a ton of money for that guitar! I don't think it's worth it! Eddie's guitar was $50.00 for the body and maybe a 50- 60 for the neck. I know because I went to the same places he got parts. But because of his name they want to charge a fortune! This is why people like fender Ibanez pay these people a lot of money for their Endorsement! So they can jack up the price! I have the Pia, and I love it! I think it's way better then any of the Eddie guitars! Way more options. And don't get me started on the special edition EVH Red Striped guitar! 25 Grand! And I'm a major Eddie fan! I would never pay that even if I could! I have Eddie's Peavey guitar, I have Gibson's Jimmy Page number 2 Les Paul. I paid over 8 Grand for that guitar!, Also, Jeff Becks cusom shop strats around 6-7 thousand etc. I have a ton of guitars. I wasn't an Ibanez fan until the Pia. You can't compare Gibson with Ibanez. They're just 2 different approaches. Gibson and Fender have been making the same guitar forever. Only Paul Reed Smith & Ibanez are trying to give players not the ordinary.. When you buy a EVH guitar or a Steve Vai guitar you know what to expect. If it wasn't for these special players you may have never purchased that kind of guitar. But when you saw you're hero's playing it you had to have it! I think My Pia is the most unique instrument I own! It sounds & plays great! We live in the golden age of gear we can nit pick all we want, but we are all lucky to have all the choices we have compared to player of the past.

That tone difference cannot be from the wood. There are some other tricks going on. I don't know what, but it's either a pickup, potentiometer or capacitors thing.

These Music Man are no doubt great playing guitars. But I just never felt their mild-mannered appearance matched the super-charged spirit of EVH's music. But frankly, Eddie could probably throw some stings on a broomstick and make it sound great. Any guitar in Eddie's hands will always sound unreal. Did Eddie ever play a broomstick?....yeah, he did it live on Summer Nights right here: ruclips.net/video/coDVcuVoINU/видео.html

I appreciate your honesty. First of all, everyone is free to have his or her own aesthetic taste and preferences when it comes to the physical design of a guitar, and so forth. You gave a very heartfelt reaction to this guitar. If I may, I would just like to respond to a couple of points you made. First, unlike all those other beautiful guitars you own, which are the famous ones music lovers have both seen and heard for decades now, the AH Kiesel, every detail of it, was designed for a singular purpose: to enable Allan to get the tones he wanted for the kind of music he played, plus the physical layout of the controls, the bridge, his preference for the headless neck, and the chambering of the body. For jazz/fusion players, this guitar is a great choice, and the last thing they care about is its looks. There are the guys who practice nine hours a day, getting lost in the sound and the never-ending struggle to apply the principles of music theory to the physical act of playing the instrument. Then they perform live late at night in tiny, darkened clubs where neither the audience nor the players care what their instruments look like, only the beauty of the tones they make. In summary, the AH Kiesel is a guitar for a very specific type of music and type of playing. For most other music and playing styles, I would certainly recommend one of the more famous guitar models. Finally, about an hour before seeing Allan perform for the last time, because he died not long thereafter, I met him and shook his hand in a restaurant near the club he performed at that night in NYC. I had known that he was a large man with big hands and very long fingers, allowing him to spread them across the fretboard in ways the rest of us wrestle with to the point of tears. But it was not until I shook his hand and got that up close and personal that I learned first hand how and why he approached the instrument the way he did: he was genetically designed to do so. Remember, this was a man who first fell in love with the great jazz saxophone players, as a child, like Charlie Parker and John Coltrane. He wanted to play a horn for that reason. So when his grandfather (Allan was raised by his grandparents) one day brought home for Allan a cheap second-hand acoustic guitar he had picked up at a pawn shop, Allan, not being interested in playing the guitar, immediately started trying to find ways of playing the guitar that made it sound like a wind instrument, a horn. Years later, we would all benefit from this. Anyway, cheers for the great review.

Very conflicting reviews on the neck. I have seen half the reviews saying it is chunkier than the 50s standard neck, your review says it is thinner, and also other reviews saying it is the same as a 50s standard. So which is which? Even gibson website just list the neck profile as 50s standard.

AND he took the extra step to change the pickups to real SD APH-2s. And I got the axe at a great price. I couldn’t be happier with it. Sounds and looks amazing.
